Why does anyone count on meteorologists?

Meteorologists missjudge the comming weather, not seldom but a big chunk of the time. But we don't have to. Let's take some of the lessons I learned from the farmers and mountain woods dwellers I was fortunate enough to know over the years.
Insects have an uncanny ability to know when bad weather is on it's way and if you keep an ey on them they are more than happy to share their insight with you. Ants will begin building mounds of dirt in front of their entrance 1-3 hours in advance of a storm. All insects fly lower when a storm is near so watching the insect eating birds, ( they will fly lower to eat ), should help you get prepared too. Some claim the Wooly Worm has a darker coat in the fall before an unusually cold or otherwise tough winter. This is one that is disputed by other farmers but from what I've experience while living in the mountains it seems true enough. Aside from insects there are a number of things in nature to be aware of.

*Within 24 hours of an upcoming storm, the leaves on your hard wood trees will turn upside down.
*Normally opened pine cones will absorb moisture from the air, tighten and finally close up.
*Anything made of wood or hemp will swell, ( the reason for doors sticking ).
*Plants will have much less dew or drost because of the lower moving air.
*Morning Glories close up.
*Low pressure makes it difficult for birds to fly.
*Almost all animals will act different the usual, more jumpy and uneasy, etc.
*There is a much heavier scent in the air of woods and sea shores from natural surroundings.
*Smaller animals will also be securing their homes and Hawks will circle more on the hunt.
*Squirells carry pine cones into their nests.
*Sounds become more intense, birds & bats, owls & grouse even from a distance. Water conducts sound.

Actually the first place to begin your weather watch should be your own body. Hair gets thicker and kinkier and any history of bone breaks and very bad muscle pulls will be remembered as the pain can sometimes be so intense it seems as though it happened more recently.
Learn the various types of cloud formations. This will help a lot. And remember this old poem too...

Fun Ways to Get Freebies Like Crazy

You can get a free day out with the family and often come home with whatever it is they make by going on factory tours. It's fun to find out how things are made and at the same time you're saving yourself a bunch of money on recreational activities. The kids can learn something and in most cases they offer freebies to the entire family of whatever it is they manufacture. Pretty much the same way, never miss the grand openings. Lots of times they have door prizes and other freebies while you are learning about the newest stores opening in your area. You can also get freebies by volunteering for concerts and similar events. In some cases it may be free food, t shirts, party favors, future tickets, etc. You never know but just as the factory tours, you'll have a good time finding out anyway.
When shopping at flea markets, often if you go just before closing the sellers are willing to practically give away some of the things they have no inclination to reload for homebound. And if it's plants you are looking for, try shopping in the fall or after the time frame of their planting. The planting can sometimes be put off till the next season by growing over the winter indoors or if it's spring plants too late sometimes they can be planted in fall for a following year's crop, especially if they are perrenials. If you're looking for craft supplies, you might want to check into churches and schools after the classes have ended to see if they have leftover materials that will not store well for future use and when looking for anything in the way of material, try remnants, seconds and defects. They are not always as bad as they sound and when they are total rejects you can use them for something other than their intended use.
Rebates have become increasingly popular in the last few years on a lot of items and certainly on electronic items and computers. Rebates of $20, $50 or $100 are not uncommon.
I’ve even seen items advertised as "free after rebate". Do these rebates come under the heading of "too good to be true"? Some of them do and there are "catches" to watch out for but if you are careful, rebates can help you get some really good deals.
The way a rebate works is that you pay the listed price for an item then mail in a form and the bar code to the manufacturer and they send you a refund thus reducing the price of what you paid for the item except with a time delay of several weeks.
Rule #1. Rebates from reputable companies are usually just fine.
You can be pretty sure you will get the promised rebate from Best Buy, Amazon or Dell but you should probably not count on getting one from a company you’ve never heard of. If you really want the product and are OK with paying the price listed then buy it but don’t count on actually getting the refund.
Rule #2. Check rebate expiration dates.
Many times products will stay on the shelf of a retailer after the date for sending in the rebate offer has expired so check that date carefully.
Rule #3. Be sure you have all the forms required to file for the rebate before you leave the store.
Rebates will almost always require a form to be filled out, a receipt for the purchase and a bar code.
Rule #4. Back up your rebate claim.
Make copies of everything you send in to get your rebate including the bar code. Stuff gets lost in the mail all the time and if the rebate is for $50 it’s worth the trouble to back up your claim.
Sign up for new parent services to receive cool stuff for free and don't forget to sign up for any other type of winnings as well. When making large ticket items always ask if there is something else that comes with the product as a thank you for purchase and if you ever have a truthfull complaint don't neglect to call or email a company in regards to a product you were not satisfied with. In most cases they are happy to have the feedback they need to make improvements and will offer you freebies to keep you coming back to their company.
Course, you could search the internet for freebies also. Just be carefull about who you give out email address to. Actually it may be better to give out a not so often used email address as I described in a past article. There's many free emails on the web for use such as this. There's also a few freebie site links on the side bar closer to the top you might give a try.

I don't know why anyone would want to clutter their home up with a bunch of books that can be found free online and read at any time without the mess and fuss and without the frustrtion one feels when they find out they simply don't have the amount of space they need to store the many favorites they have. Of course, there will be some books you just want to curl up with , not in front of a computer screen. There are others you might keep for a sentamental reason and still there are the ones you just can't bare to be without for a second taking the chance the comp may crash and leave you without the information you need. On the other hand, if you're anything like me, you read so often and such a variety it would take a large public library to completely organize them all and we know we don't have the likes of that in the confines of our home. Here's a list of library sites that are, for the most part, free on the web. You can find, aside from the latest best selling novels, most of the books you are interested in, free for the taking and some can even be downloaded for reading while off line. Job Descriptions: Why Effective Job Descriptions Make Good Business Sense

Most neophyte workers or even freshly graduated members of the workforce will jump into jobs without knowing their job descriptions. This practice is understandable. Many of these fresh graduates are just glad to have gotten a job and will try to avoid being to nosy or pushy when it comes to work. They may think that ‘demanding’ a job description will be an added negative to their employer’s impression of them.

This could not be more wrong. Employers, in general, delight in employees that ask about their job description. This shows that the employee has an interest in knowing the specifics of his or her job and would like to know what his or her specific responsibilities are. Here are a few other reasons why job descriptions are truly important to employees and even to those who are searching for jobs.

1. Knowledge of Duties
A job description will furnish you with a list of your responsibilities and duties. This will ensure that you know what jobs you are supposed to do and which jobs you are not supposed to do. Just “guessing” is not an option. However, you may be trying to do your best doing jobs that are not your duty and responsibility to perform. The result of which, on paper, is that you are not doing your job.

If you end up doing jobs that are not in your job description. You will not be credited with those jobs.

2. Prevent Being Taken Advantage Of
There will be instances when as an employee you will be asked to do specific duties that are not in your job description. It is perfectly legal to point to your job description and say that the particular job does not fall under your job description. You will, of course, have to do this politely.

You may, of course, choose to do these duties. However, make it clear that what you are doing is not within your job description. You and your manager may then choose to talk about whether these duties should be included and the proper remuneration for such.

3. What Matters to Your Employer is Paper
There have been countless employees who have come forth saying, “we did our best, worked over time, and gave our all, but did not receive the proper acknowledgement.” Unfortunately, employers will be too busy to keep track of your performance. You may have to submit reports on your progress and performance. This, of course, should be based on your job description or else it will not make any sense to your employer.

"Setting Clear Objectives"
To achieve a goal, there is a process that you should implement.
This process is to streamline and analyze your objectives.
Begin at the very beginning at the smallest, specific part.
These are the most important steps to take to meet the guidelines.
An objective is a way of knowing what action or plan is to be taken
and identifying the expected results. This plan provides a set of
directions so that making the decision will not be as complicated as
when the goal is just being considered.
Peter Ducker documented a book published in 1954 entitled Practiced
Management wherein MBO which stands for Management by Objectives, was introduced.
This is a program that consists of simple but very useful processes in order to
meet commitments in an organization. Never worry, as this is also applicable to
personal plans.
MBO consists of 5 steps:
1. It should be SPECIFIC. It is better to accomplish one goal at a time rather than
thinking of several different plans at one time. A single objective cannot be derived
if there are two or more results expected. What’s important is that there is a need to
clarify what is to be achieved and should have your full attention. This must be taken
as seriously as possible.
2. It should be MEASURABLE. A lot of things that are not tangible are hard to measure
and there are things that are really measurable for the mere fact that it includes numbers
or ratings. Take the service crews for example, it is hard to measure how the service
was delivered but if the number of complaints is counted then there is a specific number
that can be used to rate the effectiveness of the service.
In offices, the number of tasks or assignments that were accomplished is used as basis
for the measurement. Cooperation, though a very vague word can also be measured by means
of getting a subordinate and peer survey. How fast or delayed assistance was provided to
a certain individual is enough to provide information on how situations can be measured.
Try not to use general terms when making an objective statement. It should be something
clear and specific like: to write, to recite, to perform, to fix, to process, to
designate, to purchase, to choose, to reprogram, etc.
3. It should be ATTAINABLE. The resources available give information on how an
objective can be attained. This must be something that is derived from fact and very
realistic. It could be that a certain objective is indeed realistic but the time frame
to reap the result may not be. It is better to say objectives that can be factual for
this promotes motivation rather than an objective taken from belief as this may cause
unexpected failure and feeling of discouragement.
4. It should be RESULT-ORIENTED. An objective should be stated clearly so that the
expectation is clear. Focus on the end result as this will be the guide whether or
not the objective to reach the goal is effective and meaningful. Is this objective
going to help an individual grow or succeed? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Once the success has been attained and all the plans were completed then it is a success.
5. It should be TIME BOUND. There should be a limit to all the things needed to be
accomplished. This matters since the root of any plan can be traceable. This will also
tell if the objective is effective enough not to cause any delay. There will also be
more of the sense of fulfillment once a goal is attained with the objectives set earlier
than a deadline.
To sum it all up, develop an objective that is easily measured, can be attained,
with a limited time, this will help in determining if the objective is realistic
enough, meaningful, and proven to be worthwhile to everyone involved. A chart or
journal can be kept to keep track of any opportunities and strengths that were met
along the way. This will also indicate the time that was consumed and the length
of the objective developed. A successful objective helps motivate the individual
or the group involved toward greater achievements.

Finding a job and looking for somebody to fill a position are no longer difficult.
Thanks to the innovations that technology has introduced, people are now adept with
job searches. Both the job seekers and employers have more choices when it comes to
finding jobs, whether online or offline research.
In fact, the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics asserted that there is a probable
increase of 21.3 million jobs in the coming years. This is because job seekers are
finding more ways to search for the right jobs.
One of the most commonly used methods for job searches is the job listing. In fact,
most employers contend that job listing is the most effective way of landing a job.
Surveys show that 47% of inactive people looking for jobs rely so much on job listings
as a means of getting some information about job openings.
This concept is based on studies and surveys that job seekers are more inclined to search

companies.

in order to maximize their hiring endeavor.
Here’s how:
1. Employers should learn how to concentrate on rewards that they can give to the people

can get once they are hired.

If you intend on selling a supplier’s or a company’s specific product, you will discover that they are usually very keen to send you one or two free samples before putting your talents to work for yourself and often these freebies are of extreme value. You will be needing a company name for distribution, affiliate, retail, etc.
Another necessity is an email address, not your regular one, especially due to spam and scams. Explanation follows : Anybody pretending to be a company and is asking you to send money to them by Western Union because they have to pay for "expedition" taxes or for etc. at their end before they can send you the sample, stay away from them. Next thing I would suggest is you open a free account with UPS, FedEx or DHL courier. You will get issued an account number. This number will come handy on the off chance that a company wants you to pay for the delivery costs – can’t be bad for something you’re getting for free! You can include this account number with your emails to companies. If they want you to pay for the delivery, they can simply enter your shipping account number on the international airway bill for the parcel. The best thing to do is check with your courier/shipping company that your account is with by phoning them. Speak with customer services and find out which international shipping method would be the cheapest. DHL is one I know of being the cheapest since they offer slower delivery than FedEx courier. Make sure you know the name of the type of shipping you want, e.g. International Economy Rate. Mention this in your email to the manufacturer/supplier that you want this type of shipping method. Some pages you will notice have a place where it says, " request a sample ". Others you will have to look for the email address to the company and request it on your own. Then plan your route to get to those goals. Every journey begins with one step and the first step to attaining your goals is to make a realistic budget that both of you can live with.
A budget should never be a financial starvation diet. That won’t work for the long haul. Make reasonable allocations for food, clothing, shelter, utilities and insurance and set aside a reasonable amount for entertainment and the occasional luxury item. Savings should always come first before any spending.

More Than Just a Cell Phone !

Most people know that dialing 911 from any cell phone at any time carries no fee but did you know that even without any minutes on your phone so long as it has battery power, you can still dial this emergency number? Also, if you are out of your area and there is an emergency of some sort, dial 112. It works even with the key pad on lock.

If you have a remote keyless entry to yur car and you happen to lock the keys inside, don't panic. Assuming you have a spare set at home, just call someone on their cell phone from yours. Have the person hold the spare near the cell phone while you are holding yours about a foot from the car door and tell them to press the unlock button. This works no matter how far the distance is between the spare set and your locked car.

Did you know you have reserve power for backup in your cell phone. Just in case you run out of battery power, hit *3370# to activate it. It will give you about 50 % power in an emergency and will recharge just fine the next time you plug it in.
Stop being charged for those 411 calls for info. Instead dial 800-free-411. Same service, no fees! :)

I can relate to the anger you experience when you sign up for a service contract through a cellular phone company and they turn out to be a rip off or wors. All you want to do is move along to a company with better character, a more professional attitude, better plans, etc. Then you find out they are going to charge you an arm and a leg just to terminate the service. Well, here's what you do. Rather than turn blue trying to talk them into letting you off the hook, simply make it so they want nothing more than to terminate the service themselves. Roaming charges, although they have been removed from your list of fees by most providers, have to be paid by someone. Guess who loses at that game? Use the roaming areas so often it will pay them to shut you down. If it's their choice to terminate the service then the early termination charge is dismissed. Haha!

I could have located many other phone hacks for you but the fact is that many of them are not only unethical but totally evil. I know it wouldm't take much for you to find them yourself. What Can We Learn From the Y2K Scare?

From the time the panic began, I had the feeling there was really nothing to worry about at that time and as many people as I had coming to me with questions about preparation, it was ironic I would be the one telling them it was just a hoax and not to worry about it, especially considering I had gone through 2 different survival courses in the past and one of them was run by myself and a partner, ( the main reason so many questions to answer ). The thing is I don't believe for one minute that when the end is at hand it will have anything much to do with computers. I am a Christian. I believe in the prophesies God told us of in His Word. I believe it will happen exactly as He tells us. This doesn't seem to include a catastrophy involving a computer. To the contrary, it would seem He might use the internet as a way for the world to witness many of the last things which will happen. This is speculation on my part. I am in no way stating some sort of prediction. Although I was never convinced of a Y2K incident nor did I specifically prepare for it, as I said before I do believe in being prepared for anything at any time. I was fortunate to find these vids since the scare is so long over. They do help with explanations related to the most important of the disaster preparedness issues. I consider them as to be studied now rather than wait till something does happen. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Reading The Word and studying the prophesies within the context is like knowing tomorrow's headlines. The Lord told us that as a woman travail in birth, so will be the coming of the end of this world as we know it. When a woman gives birth, the pains start out mild and are rather far apart just as all the disasters we have witnessed since we were born. In the past the tornados and earth quakes, etc. were not so bad, did not kill so many, and were not so frequent. I'm certain if you search the www you can find some statistics to back up that statement in case you didn't just pay attention as God told you to. As time comes closer to birth, the pains get closer together and stronger than before as is happening with the natural an man made disasters of today. My point is?... Don't just prepare in the most physical ways but spiritually as well. In fact, reading God's love letter to you is much more important than any physical preparation you could imagine for God is wisdom. Here's one last video I think on the inspirational side. Please disregard any specified times, dates or years they predict as being definite. It is one thing to know when it's near. Only God alone knows the exact time and date. He did say though, about the parable of the fig tree... LEARN A PARABLE. He did not say to MAYBE LEARN IT. It was a direct order for those who want to get as close in time frame as possible. This parable alone should stand as a genreal guideline. :)

Once this has been done, go to companies and prospective employers early in the morning for this will give them a good

catches the worm.
The very first thing that needs to be done when looking for a job is to prepare an impressive resume. The resume will
depend on the type of job being applied for. There are times when certain employers require curriculum vitae and even a

Well now, here's just s few ideas on how you can get the most bang for your buck when it comes down to the good old comp...
. Keep them away from heavy equipment. I'm not sure why. Just do it. All the experts say it's good. I suppose there must be a reason.
. Always have a good working anti virus protection installed and set up. That's a no brainer.
. Cover the key board when not using. If you're not going to use it for long periods, cover the whole thing.
. Absolutely, under no circumstances, allow others to have soda pop or other sticky beverages near your computer. Another no brainer.
. Keep your computer clean, including disc drives, and, printer plates. You can find out how and how often by asking your dealer or searching through the manual.
You may find this hard to believe but the location and position of your desk can make you or break you when it comes to work efficiency and proficiency. Yes, I'm talking Chi here. Although not a superstitious person and certainly not inclined to trust advice that make claims of positioning certain items certain ways in order to acquire more sales, get rich quick or make an impression on powerful and influencial people, I do admit to the general idea that how you place things in your home and office have a direct impact on your mood.
If it is at all avoidable, don't position your desk facing a wall. It is very uncomfortable looking at a wall and uncomfortable makes for a lousy day's work. Try not to feel trapped. The best possible placement for the area you spend your work hours is facing a door, window or other outlet to the room you're in, in plain view of the outside world or at the very least, the outside of the room. It keeps your mind fresh in the knowledge that there is life outside of work. There is also another aspect to this placement. Most people feel very uncomfortable with their backs to a door for the simple reason they cannot see or know who might enter without them knowing. If there are people in the room at the time you are completing projects at your comp, it presents an even deeper emotion of being out of touch with customers/clients, etc. The fact is that you can place your desk in a postion towards them but on a slight angle so they don't have to keep consistent eye contact, which might make them uncomfortabel and you don't want that either. The other reason for this is that if your eye contact is steady, your clients will probably get the impression that they can communicate with you as though in a social setting and this would complicate your work. With your desk situated so you can look up and give a friendly eye shot from time to time but still turn to an angle to get back to comp business you will keep things in perspective, hebce, good chi!
Your desk chair is important for overall health reasons. You do not want to cut off circulation in the legs by using a chair that doesn't allow your feet to rest comfortably on the floor. It's best to have an adjustable swivel type of office desk chair which allows easy height and side to side movement. Front of seat should be padded and back should support the lower and middle spine area. Your chair should be made of porous material for ventialtion. Arm supports should be at a level which allows you to rest arms without either pushing up towards the neck or having to lean forward while using the mouse and keyboard. Using the old fashioned method of air drying your herbs will offer you much more in the way of essential oils which by other means depletes them and therefor makes them less nutritious and less helpful in home remedies. If you are lucky enough to have a dark, airy attic, you don't even need to use paper bags to keep them from direct sunlight. Otherwise, I do suggest tying them in bunches upside down inside the sacks and hanging the entire bag from the ceiling.
The best time to harvest herbs for preserving is before they flower. For the most part this will be in late summer. Do the cutting after the dew dries but before the sun has a chance to wilt the tender leaves. Pick only the cream of the crop, discarding any browned, wilted or diseased parts. If there are many bugs on them, try shaking first but you can rinse them if needed so long as you dry them with towels before attempting the final process. Leaves of herbs which are soaked when hanging will only rot from mold. The braches will shrink as they dry so if they are not in bags you have to check them periodically and tie them tighter as needed. Make sure to add holes to the bags in order for air to circulate freely. Your herbs may take from 1-5 weeks depending on many things including the type of herb, when it was harvested and the amount of moisture in the surrounding air.
Home dried herbs can't be beat for taste and quality. Store bought spices have been through unnatural processes and handled by far too many sources.
Store them on dark shelves in air tight containers for long lasting flavor and aroma.

Aside from a few of the most derogatory personal remarks within this video, not only do I agree with the film but I could, if requested, actually document it's truth within the context of The Bible, that being God's prophesies to us. We are not in a battle of flesh but we fight against spiritual powers in high places. Now, the down side of it is that, since it is prophesy and therefore cannot be changes, this means what will happen will happen. The fact still remains that God told us if we will pray to Him and ask for righteousness and for His will to be accomplished, if we will return to Him with all our heart, He will heal our land and people. It is not so important that we get our own way when and how we want it. It is more important to Him that we have an understanding of what is good and right according to His way and seek it with all our strength. If it is a warning, this means it's been spotted somewhere and whether it's headed in your direction or not, there is always a possibility of some harm coming to you. Pay attention to weather forecasts. Keep a transistor radio available and extra batteries in a waterproof container so it's there when you need it. Know your warning signals for your local area and where the shelters are. If you're told to evacuate, please do so. Whether you evacuate or remove yourself from the imediate danger to another room in the house, etc, keep the radio, flashlight, and batteries with you. Unlike tornados, hurricanes do allow you some prep time but both are deadly especially when they are within close proximity and there have been situations known where the directions these monsterous storms could not be so easily detected. You should also be aware of impending disasters, the signs and natural warnings becasue, let's face it... we are not always carrying a radio and listening to forecasts. There is always that unusual eerie calm before all hell breaks loose and the sky, in either a hurricane or tornado will be ugly dark green to near black color in the sky. There is a weird smell in the air. In some cases you will hear what sounds like a train or waterfall and it seems to get louder as it gets closer to you. If possible, listen imediately to the radio for any instructions which will keep you safe. They should be able to tell you if you have the time to leave and find a shelter and if not you will want the safest place within your confines. Try to avoid staying in a trailor park as it is less safe than any other place. If you have a basement, this is where you want to be. In the middle and with a heavy piece of furniture as a covering. Next best place is in the middle of the house, ( mainly due to lack of glass windows ), in the middle of the room, under the heaviest piece of furniture you can find. If there is time you may secure shutters, windows and other openings within the structure for added safety but keep in mind your wise use of time is as important as anything else in the event of coming disaster. You should have stocked up in advance on things such as bottled water, flashlights, radios, batteries, candles, matches, canned foods and first aid supplies. Of course, if you have a generator at your disposal, things will be much more convenient but not all of us will have this luxury. Just stock up on whatever you can to be as comfortable as possible in these situations.
God forbid but if it so happens that you are stuck outside with little or no protection from the elements, here is the very best you can do. Don't panic. it uses too much time and energy. Go as far away from anything which can cause sharp, heavy, flying objects after being lifted by winds and dropped. If you can find a depression in the ground you are in luck. Take advantage of it. Get into a stooping position as close to the ground as possible and wait it out. Don't go far from this safety point at the first sound of calm. Often there is a break between a first smaller and a second larger surge. Pay attention to your surroundings. Help may be closer than you think. It's hard to see through such dark skies especially considering the stress you would be enduring. Nature knows things. Watch what other animals and insects are doing. Hopefully some sort of life other than yourself will be an inspiration as to what to do next.

Frugal Grocery Shopping, Rebating & Couponing

Yes, I realize it was much more productive in the past. I know the coupons expire sooner and it's almost impossible to find any without an expiration date at all. Prices are so high that even when you find coupons with good value it seems almost a worthless waste of time and trouble to go to to save so little. The truth is, a small amount is better than nothing and it really does all add up. If couponing seems a waste, imagine how the productivity of rebating has diminished. Keep your chin up. Pay attention to some of these tips and other grocery shopping helpfulls and keep track of the savings to see the final benefit at the end of your food shopping sessions.
Although there are a number of ways to keep coupons organized, my favorite way is alphabetically by name of general food product. Keep them cleaned out, often checking for expired coupons and some you no longer use and discard promptly. Use business size envelopes or a store bought coupon organizer. Keep in mind that often specific coupons would be better discarded for the purchase of an off brand or generic now-a-days. Things have changed. Use your frugal sense. Check prices. Get a group going either through neighborhood or place of employment so the ones you don't use can be exchanged for ones you do and other people may be helped as well. In fact if at all possible, I'd suggest a community food coop for family, friends and neighbors. The many benefits to this include price reduction, improved quality and savings on more than just money but time and energy as well. Remember the old saying... " There is strength in numbers. " ? It's true with most everything. If you need further information on how to start a food coop and/or what it is, I will explain this in a future blog entry, as it could get a bit lengthy. Do a search for printing out coupons online if you like but be sure they don't suck you into purchases you never intended to make or other so called money making schemes to create more debt. Also, some of the coupon sites have spyware and addware which can creepify your PC and make online life difficult till the problems are located and fixed. Forewarned is forearmed. Don't go shopping on an empty stomache and even when coupon shopping, don't buy in bulk unless it's items you will use often enough to make it worth the money and hassle. If you or someone in the coupon club use more than one of the same coupons, the video below might prove helpful. If this is the case, be sure to request everyone save their circulars and newspaper sections for the extreme clipping! :)

Rebates?
Rebates have become increasingly popular in the last few years on a lot of items and certainly on electronic items and computers. Rebates of $20, $50 or $100 are not uncommon.

I’ve even seen items advertised as “free after rebate”. Do these rebates come under the heading of “too good to be true”? Some of them do and there are “catches” to watch out for but if you are careful, rebates can help you get some really good deals.

The way a rebate works is that you pay the listed price for an item then mail in a form and the bar code to the manufacturer and they send you a refund thus reducing the price of what you paid for the item except with a time delay of several weeks.

Rule #1. Rebates from reputable companies are usually just fine.

You can be pretty sure you will get the promised rebate from Best Buy, Amazon or Dell but you should probably not count on getting one from a company you’ve never heard of. If you really want the product and are OK with paying the price listed then buy it but don’t count on actually getting the refund.

Rule #2. Check rebate expiration dates.

Many times products will stay on the shelf of a retailer after the date for sending in the rebate offer has expired so check that date carefully.

Rule #3. Be sure you have all the forms required to file for the rebate before you leave the store.

Rebates will almost always require a form to be filled out, a receipt for the purchase and a bar code.

Rule #4. Back up your rebate claim.

Make copies of everything you send in to get your rebate including the bar code. Stuff gets lost in the mail all the time and if the rebate is for $50 it’s worth the trouble to back up your claim.

I do much of my shopping at discount food marts such as BRL and Auldies. There is nothing wrong with this method of shopping although there are some things to beware of... the most important being Botulism ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botulism ). This particular food poisoning can be found mostly within the jarred items and noticable by bulging lids. Press gently on the top of each can. Better safe than sorry. It has been known to kill. If the lid depresses or pops too easily when pressed on, put it to the side and report it to the manager or clerk as a possible hazard. Let us all stop putting things like this back, taking the chance on someone else's life or health. We all need to show more responsibility for one another. God looks kindly on these gestures and often provides blessings in many disguises for concern such as this. I do not often buy any of my meat products in these type of stores. One reason is that it is usually packaged frozen in bulk which makes it difficult to saparate into meal size portions and also sometimes the meat has been frozen and thawed more than once making it hard to know it is safe for certain.
Know the tricks of the trade and it will save you much. Shop on the off days more if possible. Avoid the government check days and pay days, as the prices tend to be higher during these times. Buy things that are in season locally rather than shipped from far away places and stock up on items you are sure are good deals. It will save on money in the long run and aslo on gas in the way of the amount of trips to the store. Soup bones not only are a very cheap snack for a hungry canine family member but also are the beginning of a nourishing soup and can be found at almost any deli at almost any time. Watch also for the ends of the meats, balognas and cheeses for good deals. Go for the end of the day bread or if it;s not available at the time of your shopping, you might opt for the day old. Sometimes you can also find bins of discounted foods for reasons as simple as labels being half torn or cans slightly dented. As stated before always be careful to check for bubbles in tops amnd bottoms of cans. Of course, always make or grow as much as possible not only to offset the financial hurts but as a way of seeing to it you and your family are eating as healthy as possible. Look at the bottom of the shelves for deals first. Everyone knows the best retailers will stock the most expensive brands at eye level. Remember... just becasue they title something " economy size " or something similar, it does not mean it's truthful. Check the price against the weight of same products in smaller packages to be sure you are actually getting a deal. Try not to get distracted whilst on your way to a specific aisle for a specific product. Go get what you set out for and ignore those distractions. The most impulsive purchases you will make will be the ones at what you thought were the end of your shopping time, the checkout. Most of those little items, book matches and lighters, candy and magazines, an extra pair of clippers or any of the " As Seen On TV " products, are not necessities but rather money makers for the place you are patronising. Want it? Think again. Need it? Think again anyway! Last but not least, always remember that each store has it's own criteria and grocery stores are as diverse as it's owners/managers. What one store owner considers a convenience another may consider a bare necessity. Hence, the reason for shopping at various locations for various products as often as possible. With rising gas prices this may seem like more of a burden but you can schedule those extra, not so common stores for down times while on other errands, etc. Hope this article helped in some ways. "How to Follow Up on All Contacts"
If you are still in the job search process, it is extremely important to follow up on all contacts. It is not good to just sit and wait for results to come pouring in when you think that you've already done your part because your contact information has been distributed.
Consider two men applying for a prime position at a company. After the interview, the first applicant just sits around waiting to hear from his prospective employer.
On the other hand, the second applicant distributes his contact information to some people that he met in the company. Furthermore, applicant number two does a follow-up on the results of the job interview a few days later. The first applicant has not been heard from, because he just relies on the basic "We'll call you" routine. Who do you think will have a greater chance of getting the job?
Even though the first applicant is more qualified, since he did not follow up or even send a thank you note to the interviewer, in the end, he does not get the job.
If you are still waiting for that job offer and you do not follow up on your contacts, your chances of getting hired become slimmer. In business, following up on all of your contacts is a sure-fire way to spread the word about you, your business sense and expanding your horizons.
If you are still looking for a job, here are some tips on how to follow up on your contacts:
* Send a thank you note right after the interview, ideally after a couple of days. This is a way of getting the prospective employer to hear from you again. Should you not get hired for the current position that they offer, someone from that company will likely keep your information on file for future consideration.
* Make sure that you leave your mobile and landline number, e-mail address and home address so that prospective employers will have no excuse of not getting in touch with you.
* Be accurate in getting the contact information of perspective employers. Recycle Your Camping Supplies

Forget about the Sterno Stoves and opt for a recycled large coffee can for any camp cooking too small for a fire. Make sure the label is removed and it has been rinsed clean. Remove the plastic lid and turn it upside down. Using tin snips, cut a vertical door roughly 2 1/2 inches by same to allow air flow control. You can fry an egg or two directly on top of the upside down java remains or use a mini pot to boil water and much more.
What about fuel, you say? Well, remember all those times you dumped the wax from candles to brighten the flame. Such a wste. Tisk, tisk. Save old tuna and cat food cans. Rinse them well. Cut cardboard strips about the same hieght as the cans and long enough to coil up on the inside. This will act as a wick. Each time you need to pour off some old wax, it goes into the cans. When it is full enough you have your fuel to use inside the coffe can stove.
One more thing. Always keep some water proof matches around for those rainy days. It's not so expensive if you just gently separate the match sticks but don't remove them from the pack. Old candle wax to the rescue again. Or you could use parafin wax. Just dip the tips into the wax and use a very light feathery paint brush to add some to the striker part.

In the movie "You've Got Mail", the sub-plot aside from the love angle is that the heroine (played by Meg Ryan) was forced out of business when the big-time bookstore owner (played by Tom Hanks) moved into town.
Meg's character owned a quaint little bookstore which she inherited from her mother. Although the prices of her books were a little steep, she makes up for it in service. She packs the books in a specialized bag, and she knows all of her customers by name.
Tom's character, on the other hand, moved into town to build a branch of a big chain-bookstore which offered discounted prices and a huge building, as compared to Meg's little bookshop on one corner of the town's streets.
In the end, Meg was forced out of business because her customers went to Tom's monstrous bookshop.
Nowadays, this situation will not hold true anymore.
More and more small organizations are paving the way and giving big businesses a shot of their own medicine.
In the movie, the reason why Meg Ryan was forced out of business is because she cannot profit anymore. Her prices are steep as compared to the other big business' discounted rates.
Her only edge is that she gives personal service, she knows her customers by name and she has a very small staff, about 2 or 3 employees.

Here's a few tips on bargain hunting and frugal shopping...
. Have a set price in mind before looking for the item you want
. Be respectful of other people's biz. Don't be loud when trying to get someone to come down on a price. Don't bargain in front of other customers.
. Do your shopping during off hours when biz is slow. Do it during off seasons if possible, as well.
. Buy in bulk.
. Offer to advertise for the smaller business persons and companies when you get a good deal. Make sure they know you will spread the word and send some more consumers their way.
. Look for the generic products. More often than not, they are as good or better, at up to half the price as those name brands.
. Opt for things in recycleable containers and, always, ask for paper bags instead of the plastic ones, unless, of course, you know how to make plastic bag rugs!
. Always keep receipts and the original cartons or containers that something came in until you are sure that it's exactly what you wanted and it is in good working condition. The store manager will require it at the time of any exchange.
. If your item has a warranty, please do the smart thing and fill it out and send it in. Being lazy can get you nowhere when a part goes kabloohy on you or the product just straight up, stops working for no apparent reason.
. Last, but not least, if you feel you've been frauded in some way, contact the Better Business Bureau. That's what they're there for.

Dress for success.
Prepare and practice for an interview. After the date and venue has been set, allow time
for enough preparation for the big day. Remember that first impressions do last, so the
way an applicant look really does matter. Employers could easily give the verdict based
on the manner of dressing during the initial interview.

Better questions and service can be received if the appearance itself commands respect.
It is important to consider the surroundings of the company granting you an interview.
There is no reason to be over dressed or poorly dressed during this very significant day.
In fact, it is a good rule of thumb to always dress appropriately for any situation.
All to often appearance is glossed over. Some might say that the inner characteristics
of the person matter more, but in reality, you only have one opportunity for a first
impression. Make it count!

Although there are specific guidelines that can be followed, these does not apply to all
states like New York for example, where people wear trendy up to extreme styles that are
far away from the usual fashion rules common people know. The rule of thumb should be to
wear something that could boost more confidence.

Below are the top ten do's and don'ts during an interview:

Ø Avoid wild colored nail polish before the interview. The same goes with long nails
that could easily turn off some conservative employers. These should be neat and very
tidy looking.

Ø Never wear jewelry that rattles and jiggles as you speak and move. Try not to wear two
or more rings or earrings. Piercing aside from the ears is also a no.

The way a person looks equal the message he is trying to convey. During the interview,
this can either become a plus factor for the applicant or big loss. Know for a fact that
the way an applicant should look must be appealing, fashionable but not loud.

Consider the latest trends in the area or location where the prospective job is located.
One aspect that is a part of how employer picks a new hire is based on the physical
attributes of the applicant. From the way the hands were shaken, keeping an eye contact,
the way the posture was maintained, the smile was delivered up to the manner of dressing
is being rated already.

Regardless of your personal career background, skills, and underlying talents, if the
first impression was never striking enough to make an outstanding appeal to the
interviewers, nothing else counts. This can be the potential employers’ initial

In light of recent graduations, I figured it a good idea to address this article to those who will be looking for work following their school years. The video that I inserted at the end is for everyone.

Wage for the New Grad

Fresh out of college, most people are excited about landing that first job. Given that most grads do not have work experience or only had a part time job while studying, it is not easy to secure an executive position right away.

Starting from scratch, one has no choice but to start from the bottom in an entry-level position then in time move to the top. The challenge most grads face in applying for a job is the competition. Aside from those who just graduated, there are also those who have left the previous job and are looking for a new one.

According to hiring and compensation experts, there is not that much room to negotiate when one is just a fresh grad. This is because that person does not have substantial work experience as basis to negotiate for a higher wage compared to those who have already worked before.

The range of the salary fresh grads get are based on the course one has finished in college. To those who volunteered to be surveyed, it was found that people who graduated from the sciences were able to get a higher salary compared to those who graduated from the liberal arts.

A tip that may help a little in the negotiation process is knowing your potential and not easily giving in or selling yourself short. In the course of an interview, it will boil down to the how much you will be getting. Most fresh grads accept what is given immediately and reply “ok” ending it there.

It is best to only talk about the salary when an offer has been made. If the interviewer is good, it can wait. During that time, one can try asking how much the company will give for someone in that position then be able to negotiate about that further later on regardless of the figure that was given.

The applicant can then ask questions such as job responsibilities and mention that the contribution one can give to the company is more important than the salary you will be receiving showing the recruiter you are a team player.

Applicants can negotiate more by doing research on how much other companies are offering for the same job before giving an immediate answer. By knowing that information, it is possible for you to negotiate the salary offered for a little more.

As far as the survey sites go, I've never tried any and so, even though I recommend the book, I can't make any promises. I always thought they were gimmick sites but some of the material in this book, " All About Paid to Surf ". I just added these to my Badongo Files. I had to figure out where they were. These are all free downloads. Some have resell rights with them.
" Emergency Money " will give you a number of different ideas on quick cash for other business ventures and such. " Hidden Web Bargains " was simply awesome, loaded with great links to cheap resalable items, etc. You will definitely want to check that one out. I saved the best one for last though. I read through this " Receive Goods for Free " and although no fantastic appearance or fancy shmancy e-book covers, etc., the simple fact is, this one was loaded with simple, easy to understand instructions on how to get stuff for nothing from major companies. Nice items. No, I have not tried the information out yet. Sometimes, one just knows that something will work. Please let me know the experience you have with this. I'm looking forward to some good feedback. There are many other free e-books loaded with good info for your assistance. The mind set is not there to deal with something we never expected would happen. Put in the proper perspective, if we were expecting whatever it is in the first place, it probably wouldn't be considered an emergency.
Read, research, study. Learn about all those situations you don't believe you'll ever be in. The best source to look for jobs related to Information Technology (most commonly known
as IT) is, obviously, the Internet.
Various sites offer listings of job openings for specific fields. The key for a fruitful
search is to know how and where to look for the best possible jobs available.
To have access on a certain site's listing, an individual must first accomplish the
following:
1. Register at the chosen site
2. After registration confirmation (via an email from the moderator of the site),
the individual may now have access to the list
3. In searching for the preferred or suitable job vacancy, you may be asked to fill out
a form (online) that states an individual's profile.
This is usually used for easier browsing of related work since IT has various fields
of specialties. Other sites automatically match an individual's profile with the
available or suited vacancy based on the information given by the person.
4. The applicant has the option to choose from contractual, full-time, part-time,
trainee or temporary jobs category.
5. If the individual prefers work that is currently not listed on the site, he or she
may have the option of posting his or her resume, from which prospective employers may
browse through at some other time.
To avoid frustration while browsing through the numerous listings of IT openings on the
Internet, take into consideration the following pointers:
1. Determine the following:
1.1 Organize your career portfolio in soft and hard copies. While most employers will
ask for a copy of you resume through the net (email), there are some that still require
hard copies for submission at their respective offices.
1.2 Determine preferred location of work. Is the individual willing to be relocated
should a good position be offered in another city or state? Does he or she prefer work
within commuting distance?

You may find it hard to use networking to find a job if you can't rely on your warm contacts to give you the information
you need. At times, you would have to ask your warm contacts to refer you to at least two people that they know who will
be able to give you the information you needed.
However, there are times that your warm contact, particularly those who don't know you well,
may not readily provide you with the information. Some of your warm contacts may feel reluctant about vouching
for you to their other contacts.
Because of this, you may find it difficult to use your network. To make networking and getting referrals an easy
task for you, here are a few tips.
* Nurture your warm contacts.
Before you even need your warm contacts or before you even ask for help, keep in touch with your warm contacts.
You may send notes or greetings from time to time, call to "catch up" on them, invite them to lunch, be interested
or help in their business or do anything just to cultivate your connection with them.
In this way, by the time you need help, they can remember you and can more readily give information about their
other contacts that will be able to help you.
* Be polite.
Since you might not have close personal relationships with some of your valuable warm contacts, it is inappropriate
to just give them a call and ask them for information about your field of interest.
Sometimes, sending a note in advance, or asking to meet them for lunch is a better way to ask for their help.
* Listen to them.
Most of the time, even if your warm contact knows little in the field where you are trying to find a job, they might
offer you advice. Be polite and interested in what they are saying. Who knows, the information that they are giving
may be valuable to you in the future.
There are times that your warm contacts may be telling you tips on what manner will work best when you talk to the
persons to whom you are being referred. Your warm contacts may also imply what qualities and qualifications the person
is looking for.
* Ask for at least two referrals.
Before you ask for referrals, make sure that your warm contact had said everything that he or she can say about your
field of interest.
Even if they know little about that field, it is impolite if you cut them short while they are speaking to ask if they
know somebody who will be able to help you.
If they weren't able to refer you to at least one of their contacts, thoughtfully ask them why they couldn't do so.
They may give you answers that may include indirect comments or suggestions. They may also indicate a lack of confidence
in your work strategy. If this is so, you may have to make follow ups with them to prove that you are indeed credible
and match their requirements.
However, there are also times when they can't refer you to their contacts because they just don't know anybody who might
have the information or might be interested in the product.
In this case, ask them to keep their eyes open for opportunities that you might be interested in. You can also leave
with them copies of your resume.
* Just ask for two referrals.
Two referrals are enough from each warm contact. This is to have another option in case the first one didn't work out.
Asking for more than two referrals could be impolite as it can take much time from your warm contact. Also, that will
make your warm contact feel that you are relying mostly on him or her for your job search. So, unless they volunteer
the information, don't ask for more than 2 referrals.
* Contact referrals as soon as possible.
When your warm contacts give you referrals, there are times that they also call these people personally to give more
information about you. On the other hand, when you contact the people to whom you were referred, your referrals may
call your warm contacts to verify the information or to ask more information about you.
Either way, you have to contact your referrals soon enough that these people can still remember their conversation
with your warm contact, or your warm contact can still remember that you have talked.
At times, after your referrals were called by your warm contacts, they anticipate your call and even prepare
questionnaires and exams for you to take. Do not waste this opportunity by delaying follow-up on referrals.
Keeping these tips in mind will be able to help you in asking for good referrals from your warm contacts.

The so called "free stuff" on the web has proven to be nothing nore than a true pain in the rump to me...at least most of it. I don't know how you feel about it, but, personally, I don't like wasting my time. Time is precious. Therefore, when I find out that I will get a free sample through the mail for filling out a survey, I politely decline. Some of those surveys can take several minutes to an hour or more. For what? A sample of shampoo I can use one time and if I like it enough, maybe I'll go spend a whopping $1.00 per ounce. I think not! Those scams have been around for years, and, so have I. Yes, been there, done that. Here's another one... you're going to recieve a free product, but, first, you have to agree to a contract, such as a book or cd club. Till they're done billing you for the shipping and handling, you've spent more money than if you had purchased it from the store! The most recent ones that have gotten me are...first...a few years ago, I seen an ad for 5 free aloe plants...no strings attached. I graciously accepted. Thought to myself, "now here's something I can use". Well, my order came and I was surprised to find that it wasn't the plants I was offered. Instead they substituted it for 5 bottles of some sort of miracle cures. The order also came with 2 free credit cards from stores online. What they neglected to tell me is it's free to receive the cards, but, even if you throw them out, (which I did), they will charge you $20.00 a month just for sending them. And, last but not least, the one that gets me the most agrivated, " free**.com. Yes I'm sure you,ve seen the commercials. They sing a short jingle that catches your attention. You apply. You don't cancel in a 1 month period of time and, voila!...you don't know what they,ve taken out of your account until your bank statement comes. Now, the reason this one is the most troublesome for me is that they tell you, this is a good way to find out your credit history, fix it up, and, keep track of it. They suggest various ways to improve your credit, while they're taking out money for something you REALLY COULD GET FREE. All you have to do is apply for something you know you won't be elligible for. Once you are turned down, you have a right to receive your free report in the mail. The company you applied to will even give you directions on how to do this, FREE OF CHARGE. Ok, to sum it up, what you're really getting for free is headaches, bank fees, and, top thisoff with the numerous junk mail they set you up with and you did NOT get anything for free. There are a few good sites out there where you really will get some free stuff and samples, but, let's get serious. Why would they give you anything more than a sample for something, like computers and tvs, etc.? Be smart... don't fall for these scams...be frugal with your time and save yourself the headaches and bills. Instead of thinking you have "good luck" with free stuff, just repeat after me, "Good God, give me some common sense and let me not use the time you've given me on such useless, expense causing junk."

If you find yourself stranded in an area where you cannot find water at all, there is a simple way I remember learning of a long time ago. Dig a hole in soft dirt in a sunny spot. Line it with enough plastic such as that from a trash bag. It should hang over the edges at top about 2 inches all the way around. Place another piece of plastic, ( not too taught ) on top and use small stones to keep it in place. Place one small stone in the middle on the very center. It will collect condensation and can then be poured out into a cup for drinking. This water should be purerer than any from a local stream but may not be a lot at one time. Good to have more than one of these caches for various times of use. If you're lucky enough to have a tupperware container around, you could use it for the water collections.
In most cases it is common to find a local source of water no matter where you are but you will definitely make your stay a safer and more pleasant one if you have the purification tabvlets to remove the toxins. Of course, if you don't have anything and cannot boil it either, it is better to take a chance on getting sick than dying from dehydration. :(
I feel sure that with some more research, you can find other ways of quenching your thirst in survival situations.

While I believe in every word of The Bible and do not think for one minute that the end times consists of massive world wide nuclear attacks, I think it is vital that you know there is always a chance of sporadic explosions in smaller areas. If you know in advance of an oncoming attack, disconnect your car/truck battery, as a small explosion can completely ruin them from far distances. You will want to have your auto in useable condition especially in a time of emergency. Everyone, including children should know what the emergency warning sirens sound like and what to do if and when they hear them.

Every able body'd adult in the residence should also know where the gas, if any, is located and how and at what time to turn it off. This is a good thing to know for many of the natural disasters as well as some of the man made.
Next to oxygen, water is the most essential element of life. Stock up on enough drinking water to keep hydrated under the most extreme situations, about 14 gallons per person per two week intervals. If you know in advance, of a pending emergency, fill every available container with bathing water... sinks, tubs, buckets, etc. Also a good idea to keep a supply of water purification tablets or a bottle of iodine stored for the sort of emergency as a flood, torado, etc. Flood water can be made safe to drink if it is needed but only with the proper equipment/supplies. Keep canned goods and other nonpershable foods stocked up for times of trouble and keep a good supply of hard candies and trail mix in case you must evacuate. It is easily transportable. A few days supply of any regular medications will be a welcome relief at times like these also.

The Interview :
So, you’ve submitted a killer Curriculum Vitae and supporting documents.
You’re ahead of the pack and have just received a call for an interview.
What do you do next?
The interview is the most stressful and important part of job hunting.
This is where the employers make a decision based on his or her impression of
whether to hire you for their job. You will want to do your best in this part
because here lays the culmination of all your job hunting efforts. Flub it here
and all your efforts from application to examinations will go down the drain.
1. Make a Great Impression
Always dress in your best attire for the interview. Your attire should be appropriate.
No matter what the company may require for their employees, the first impression
for applicants should be conservative business attire.
2. Do a Little Research
One of the best ways to make a good impression on your interviewer is to do
a little research on the company you are applying for. This will equip you
with material to answer many of the questions the interviewer will ask.
One of the main points of the questions you will be asked is how your skills
can benefit the company. If you know a thing or two about the company, you will
find it a lot easier to answer this question. Plus, dropping a few meaty tidbits
about how much you know about the company will go a long way in impressing the
interviewer.
3. Watch Your Body Language
Many of the interviewers are well versed in body language, and you will find that,
throughout the interview, they will be looking for hints about your personality from
the way you act, talk, and move. It would be abnormal to assume a different set of
body language during the interview. What you should do is to take note of your body
language so that at least it communicates openness and honesty.
Avoid telling lies or embellishing your answers. Experienced interviewers will notice
this in an instant. Always keep your palms open and avoid crossing your legs or your
arms together. Do not be afraid to make eye contact while speaking; just make sure that
you do not come across as intimidating.
4. Confidence
Walk in with a purpose. Answer with a purpose. Try not to be too self-conscious. Make
sure you are confident in what you say. If you hit a snag and find yourself in a
compromising situation, make sure you handle the situation confidently – even when
saying that you do not know an answer to a question.
Confidence reflects competence. Employers always look for competent people to fill their
ranks.

There was a time when a person who wanted to find work had to buy newspaper and look through the classified ads section. The advent of the internet has changed that by creating opportunities for people to work either in a different state or in another country.
It has made the world a smaller place rendering it accessible for anyone with a computer to search for a job and apply to it.
There are many sites that offer such services. All the person has to do is open an account, fill up the necessary fields then submit your resume.
These sites usually ask for pertinent information such as the person’s name, age, address, contact number and social security number.
Additional information that will be requested is educational background. Employment history is also another thing that has to be mentioned which includes the job description and highlights that one has experienced during that person’s career.
A section in the account will also ask the preferred industry of work, if the person is willing to do field work or open to relocation and the expected salary should one be accepted for the job.
With all the information provided, these sites will then match your qualifications with the jobs available. This service is free and matches can be seen when the person logs on the account or gets a notice via email.
Some sites offer a service with a fee that will place the resume over other applicants giving that person more priority but even that is a not a guarantee that one will get the job.
Online job hunting is not just for professionals. It caters to anyone who wants to work either full time, part time or on a per project basis.
Applying online is not only done through job sites. You can also check the websites of companies that usually have a section on careers to see what openings are available. You simply have to go through the process of giving certain information and uploading your resume.
There are many jobs available in the market. The internet has made it easier for companies to make people aware that there are vacancies available. Hunting for the perfect job for an individual requires time, effort and knowledge.
For stress free job-hunting, every individual must first consider the following pointers before starting your job hunting process:
1. Know what type of job you would like to apply for. Gate crashing job fairs that offer work not related to one's degree or work preference would be a waste of time.
Consider your interests, preference of work location and job shifts (to be especially considered by professionals who have family members to take care of). If all these fit the category of the job opening available, it would be best to proceed with the application process.
2. Prepare possible needed documents or career portfolio. Have several copies of your resume, transcript of records and any certifications ready for immediate submission if needed.
3. Know where to look for job postings. There are various forms that offer listing of jobs. Below are some of these sites:
3.1 Internet. One of most widely used searching options is the Internet. Aside from the fact that browsing the Internet for available jobs is less time consuming than personal appearances to inquire at the offices, this can also be the least expensive form of job hunting.
You would not need to buy newspapers to browse through the ads for vacancies nor spend gas money to go to the offices.
Not only local or national vacancies can be browsed through the net, international job openings could likewise be easily accessed by the user, thus, offering one a much wider perspective in choosing the right job.
3.2 Newspapers. One of the most commonly used searching medium. Local newspapers advertise jobs that are within an applicant's commuting distance. Available jobs are usually printed on a regular basis.
3.3 Career or Job Centers. These usually offer jobs for ages 16-18 and rarely above 21 years of age. Though fully loaded with vacancies, it caters mostly to the younger applicants.

Employers have said that they are more likely to be 12 percent more graduates this year than last year. It is the first projected increase since the year 2000.
In another study, a projected 60 percent of US business plan to employ the same number of graduates this year as with last year. That is an increase of fifty-five percent from last year, according to the CERI (Collegiate Employment Research Institute) at MSU.
According to recent studies, US Corporations and businesses will employ more graduates with a bachelor’s degree in business, biological and physical sciences. Those with construction management, engineering degrees, health care and accounting will also experience an increase in hiring. Other fields will have a slight decline.
On the average, companies are hiring forty three percent of its interns to fulltime and regular status. The expected increase in the hiring of graduates coincides with an expected growth forecast of the economy next year according to a recent survey by the Federal Reserve Bank.
A lot of companies are coming out of a slump and are now hiring their interns and looking for more. A lot of companies are posting jobs and coming into different campuses.
Most experts advise that during the holidays, whether you’re looking for permanent employment or internship, it is time to step up your search.
Take advantage of the holiday events you’re going to, discuss what you’re looking for and your goals. Businesses don’t want to be flooded with calls and faxes of resumes. They will probably rely on word-of-mouth to get a handful of candidates The holidays are a perfect time to network.
What to expect:
Companies will hire more students earning bachelor’s degree in business and management, physical and biological sciences. Engineering, health care and accounting degrees also would experience an increase. Other degrees will experience a decrease in hiring
Businesses expect to employ about the same volume of MBAs this year as last year. Businesses have found employees with bachelor's degrees being able to do some work being done by MBAs.
It will be harder for graduates with computer science degrees to find work.

Companies are more likely to employ students who have undergone internships. The work experience, they say, makes a lot of difference. Federal agencies will employ more graduates but not nearly enough to offset the decrease in hiring by the state and local government agencies.

On average, starting salaries will increase by 1 to 2 percent.

Employment Part 1

There is a free tips widget on my side bar which is suppose to change daily. So far as I can tell it has never displayed more than one tip so I decided to start my own tips entries to help you out. I'll get to these as often as possible.
Are you a fresh graduate and planning to look for a job? Did you just recently quit your job and are looking for greener pastures? Are you unemployed and have little experience regarding ways to secure a job? Whatever your situation may be, it would be to your advantage to study the following tips:
Check your resume for mistakes
Before submitting your resume to a prospective employer, check your resume for corrections at least three times before handing it over. After researching about the job position, it is critical that you format your resume to match the needs of the company. For example, if you are applying for an accounting job, you should put in detail your accounting experience on your resume. Typographical and grammatical errors are serious no-no's. It is also ideal to keep the length of the resume' to at least a page and a half long.
Taking the interview challenge
A survey conducted by a staffing and consulting firm based in California which corresponded with 1,400 chief financial officers concluded that candidates for employment made most of their mistakes on their interviews. Some of the mistakes they made include: arriving late, having little knowledge about the company and the position applied for, and having a superiority complex and behaving arrogantly. The body language of the applicant must also denote that he is confident yet not overpowering. He must maintain eye contact, have a strong handshake, and avoid looking defensive by the act of crossing the arms. Wearing the right clothes is crucial for projecting a confident stance. As they say, it is better to go to an interview over-dressed than being under-dressed.
Answer questions smartly
A common mistake of interviewees is that they tend to get tense and forget the questions that are given to them, which has the effect that they are not prepared for the interview. It is important to research about the company and the position applied for to prevent being side-tracked during the interview. If you do not know the answer to the questions being asked, it is better to admit you don't know the answer to the question and add that you can research about it. Look for the skills or expertise that the company is looking for so that when interview day comes and the interviewer asks about your strengths and core competencies, you will be able to match it to what they need.
Getting the necessary referrals
Having a referral from one of the company employees can go a long way toward landing an interview. A typical company may receive job applications in the hundreds and usually 35% to 60% of all job vacancies are filled by referrals. The odds of getting hired when you have a referral are very high if you have another 200 to 500 applicants vying for the same position. If you do not know anyone from the company that may give you a referral, it is a good idea to the alumni network of your college, trade groups, social networks, and professional associations. Remember, having a referral greatly increases your chances of getting the position.
On online application
With the current trend of technology and its merging with business processes, more and more companies are now requiring prospective applicants to submit their application online. Thus, first impressions are relayed not by your first appearance but by the quality and content of your e-mail. E-mails regarding job application should be polished and well-articulated. When applying on-line, use the following tips:
Complete your sentences and do not abbreviate.
Employers do not like when you send them application letters that seem to be too casual. It is important to make a letter that is both formal and well written. This gives a good impression regarding your capabilities and skills.
Get directly to the point
When writing an application letter, you must be concise and straightforward. Do not put a story on the letter just to get the attention of the employer, chances are he or she will just get irritated with you and this only reduces your chances of getting hired.
Consider potential issues that may hinder you from getting the job
Although there are instances wherein there is a lot of need for a job but the requirements for the position may entail training programs that may bar you from getting the position due to its highly competitive nature. Some require a lot of experian even at least 3 years of work experience. Some may have no barriers to entry but the job itself may entail a very routine work flow.
Getting the job you want may be a challenge but never lose hope. It is better to wait a while and get the job that you will enjoy rather than get a job as soon as possible but ending up dissatisfied and unhappy. Make the right decision then act on it.

Survival is basically a mind set. It's not a memorised list of dos and don'ts exactly. It is helpful to know how to catch your own food among other things though. I had planned on reselling the e-books I spent money to purchase but since the economy is getting so bad, I recently began adding the books to a file sharing site so you may all benefit from them. I just uploaded two more books that may help some of you through some rough times. Please be advised that although catching your own seafood may provide you with meat for your tummy, shell fish are scavengers and therefore, not very suitable for a good healthy meal. That's why God told us not to eat them. ;) Anyhow, the book on fly fishing and most of the recipes in the other book are keepers and they are free to download from this entry where I placed my Badongo widget.

Here are some other pointers on fly fishing that may prove helpful...

Salmon fly fishing is distinctly different to trout Stillwater fly fishing. It is practiced by thousands of anglers all over Europe and Americas. Here are some of the distinctive features that are different to other types of angling:
The flies are usually heavier doubles or trebles. These flies act as a solid attractants for salmon.
Position is critical to your success. Always fish over a place where salmon prefer to rest, unless you see a moving fish.
It is purely lure fishing method rather than imitative of insects (i.e. the fly should be moving as though it were a small fish). The essence of good salmon fishing is how you move your lure.
As you are required to tackle-up in expectation of hooking a large fish, the leader strength etc must be suitable for this eventuality. Fish with a 16lb breaking strain leader.
In order to get the flies down, in fast moving water, a sink-tip fly line is essential. Use a fast-sinking braided leader on a floating line, which gets round most of the problems.
In order to stay 'in touch' with the fly, it is necessary to 'mend' the line occasionally. This involves 'flipping' the line repeatedly so that the downstream belly created by the action of the current, is converted into an upstream belly. This action enables the angler to fish for the most part with a fairly straight, direct connection to the fly.
On a spate river, the most productive time to fish is as the river level falls after rain and the water starts to clear or settle down. That means you will need to consult river level indicators to get a feeling of the water level. Dawn and dusk is preferable, but you may catch fish during the day (and also at night).
The general tip on establishing a contact with a salmon is to let the fish take line, and then tighten into the fish without a deliberate 'strike'. A trout angler’s natural reaction is to strike, but perhaps this instinct can always be controlled, when the prize is so much greater.
To play with a salmon you are advised to always move downstream, so that the fish has to contend not only with the pressure of the bent rod, but also is forced to expend effort against the river current.
Salmon is a tricky fish too; you need ounces of proven strategy before you hope to catch one of them.

I took a survival course when I was in my twenties and then had my own group for about a year until I moved to the mountains and lived extensively off the land for almost 7 years with my husband and son. The locals said " you flat landers will not make it through the first winter ". Haha! Indoor Gardening Part 2

I know that most people think of growing food for the table as just an outdoor activity. Fact is, with the right soil and light, most anything can be grown indoors as well. I've even had success with tomatoes throughout the winter months simply by pinching the suckers off the tomatoes in the late part of summer and plopping them in some good potting soil in hanging baskets and half wine barrels. Be sure to rinse them well before bringing them indoors and don't waste too much time after planting or the insects will be hitchhiking into your living room. Tomatoes soak up a lot of sun so be sure you have enough window space with bright light if you intend to try this. If you don't have gardens outdoors that's alright too. Just start your indoor veggie growing by purchasing a few plants. Don't opt for the indeterminate varieties for indoor growing as you may wind up not having any room for anything else. I've also grown a good lot of strwaberries using the same method. For this, after a decent crop, pull a strand of the vine over to a new pot each time and push down into the soil. Leave it attached till it is a full plant. Once it's grown, you can clip it and get another one or two harvests from the mother plant before discarding to the compost pile and soon you will have fruit on the baby plant. Repeat the process every so often so you will never be without fresh fruit. Many herbs grow fine indoors and in fact, some people do this exclusively to save their outdoor space for larger growing vegetation. Most herbs can be grown in fairly small pots and with very little care. Chives are outrageously priced in the grocery store. Buy a few starter plants and clip as needed. They are awefully hard to grow from seed but once you have some plants started, you can keep them going by transferring them to larger pots and dividing them as needed to keep space useage to a minimum. If you are really in a pinch and don't have any window space for plants at all, :( , at least sprout your own beans. Alfalfa may be the most popular but it is by far not the most economical. I use the lowly lentil. Beans are loaded with much needed protien and other nurishment plus a helping of fiber. To keep a supply on hand all the time, use three small canning jars with rings and some old mylon material that you no longer use for anything else... recycle!. Start one jar and 4 days later start another. By the time you are finshed with the first jar the second should be ready and the third has just been started. Get it? Place the cut pieces of nylon over the jar and add the ring after placing a small handful of beans into jar. Rinse a few times and then fill with water. Let soak over night. The next evening, rinse well and this time you will drain it. Remember to use the rinse water to quench the thirst of other plants. :) Rinse them twice a day until ready and each time place them back up on a dark ventilated shelf. If you place them on a sunny sill the last day it will all but triple the quantity of vitamin C. Enjoy eating healthy for less. :)

Plants are just as popular as furniture when one is deciding on furniture and soft furnishings.Aside from the aesthetic value plants provide your home with, there are also health benefits - grade school science class tells us that plants cleanse the air through utilizing the carbon dioxide and producing more oxygen. Here is some important information on how to care for your indoor plants to gain the optimum health and aesthetic benefits.
Lighting
Most indoor plants need good lighting. You can provide this through natural lighting in the room of your choice or there must be electric lighting. Darker leaved plants usually don't need as much light as others.
Here are the varieties of plants (usually those that only require medium to low light) that are known to be suitable for indoor gardening:
Philodendrons. Boston ferns. African violets. Cyclamense. Creeping Fig. Spider plants. Snake plants. Coleus. Wandering Jews, Date Palms and Umbrella trees.
Watering :
A common mistake most people make in indoor gardening is they tend to over-water the plants, which may lead to rotting roots. Make sure to research the type of plant you have, because each kind of plant varies on their watering needs.
Potting :
Choose good quality and attractive container for your indoor plants. Make sure that the pot is clean before placing your new plant into it to prevent infection and to encourage healthy growth.
Humidity :
In indoor gardening, humidity is a big issue. The amount of moisture in the air has effect on the growth of the plants. During mornings, you could spray the plants with water for their much-needed moisture. Make sure the leaves don't get covered in dust.
Fertilization :
Just like watering, fertilizing depends on the type of plant. If you have managed to supply your indoor garden with the right amount of light, water and humidity, fertilization may not need much attention. A good indoor fertilizer can be bought from most home depot or hardware stores. Orchids need the special fertilizer available.
There are also numerous varieties of edible plants which can be grown successfully indoors. For instance, no kitchen is complete without at least one Aloe for such things as burn relief and topicals for simple cuts. We will discuss this in more depth next time. The above simple indoor plants are enough to give you some experience before starting your next project.

Stinking Roses ?

You guessed it... garlic! It's potential in the prevention and healing of many health issues is incredible. It can be found in most domestic gardens and ocassionally growing wild. Roses love it growing nearby because it deters a lot of the harmful insects for them. It will produce larger crops if planted in the late summer for the following year.
Studies have shown the benefits far outweigh the uncomfortable side effects such as bad breath, although it is wise to check with your doctor if vomiting or diarrhea are present and persistent as some may have alergic reactions to this member of the onion family. It should also be noted that garlic is among the many blood thinners of natural remedies and so should be avoided by pregnant women and those already on medications such as Coumadin.
Do keep garlic refrigerated so it will not deteriorate and develope botulinum.
For generations, throughout Europe and Asia, it has been known for it's medicinal properties for everything from the common cold to cancer prevention, ( particularly, cancers of the stomach and gastrointesinal organs ).
One more thing... mosquitos hate the odor produced by the sweat glands after eating this stinking rose so if you are about to be enjoying the great outdoors for a barbecue or camping trip, prepare to include this in the menu. It will surely assist in sending away the majority of the blood sucking noseeums for you.

When Homeless Seems Hopeless

It may seem to those who are without a permanent residence that others just don't have any simpathy but the simple truth is... if someone never had the experience, there's no reason to expect them to " get it ". It's easy for some counselor to tell you all you need is a job and there are plenty of them to be found. It's easier yet to tell you that you need to look inside to figure out why you are homeless and consider from there how to fix the problem. I have to admit it's been some time since I experienced it myself and so it's hard to offer advice. Times change. Back in the late 70s, homeless even was considered " cool " to some people. Wink, wink. Many of us had some of the best times of our lives making friends with like mindeds and getting a buz with total strangers. With the way the economy is going, it wouldn't surprise me if it happened again some day and so I never look down on those in need. From 2000 to 2002, I ran a shelter basically 24/7 so I kind of got a clue as to how some things have changed. I have to tell you, my time spent doing that job was much harder than the act of being homeless in the late 70s. I also have to make it clear that I'm in recovery for alcohol addiction since June of 1996 and that WILL make it easier if it should, ( God forbid ), ever happen to me again. It's hard enough meeting your needs at a time like that, let alone trying to meet your flesh desires. I know you've all heard it before but... Got God? Look up and listen for answers instead of looking down at the problems you face. Looking down will bring you further down.
This blog will NOT be the answer to all of your questions. It will not be your problem solver. I'm not even going to say it will make your day a bit brighter, but I certainly hope so. The main thing I'd like you to know is that you are not alone. In here, I will share some of my stories from both sides. I thank God I am able to do that much. I will also post free downloadable articles and e-books to help you cut corners. I will share with you some of the most important things related to survival and self reliant living and offer safety tips.
Just for the record, Not only have I spent time homeless on more than one ocassion and later multitasked as the overseer of a shelter but I also spent close to 7 years deep in the mountains, living off the land exclusively while I built a cordwood home. So, this blog is dedicated, not only to homeless people, but also to people living on a budget and for those intending to make a move to a secluded place in order to live a more self sufficient lifestyle.
Well, here I am back in the urban jungle. I hate where I live and most of all, wish I could be where I want to be, but God has a reason for everything.
Whether you are homeless by choice or by cercumstances is none of my business... or anyone else's for that matter.
